NACD Texas TriCities Chapter Welcomes New Board Members and Advisors

HOUSTON, TX — The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Texas TriCities Chapter welcomed four new members to its Board of Directors at their September, 2015, Chapter Board meeting, including Deborah Cannon, General Don Cook, Barbara Duganier and Allen Gelwick.   The Chapter also announced fall appointments for new advisory board members and new directorships for Chapter Board members.

Deborah Cannon recently retired as CEO of the Houston Zoo and currently serves as a corporate director of Bancorp South, Inc., Memorial Hermann Health System, Physician’s Referral Service and the Greater Houston Partnership.  She provides sound industry experience in banking and healthcare, and a solid not-for-profit track record to enhance the Chapter Board and program committee. 

Barbara Duganier, a public company director at Buckeye Partners (NYSE: BPL), MRC Global (NYSE: MRC), and Genesys Works with over 30 years senior executive experience at Arthur Andersen and at Accenture, brings exceptional strategic and audit experience to the board from a national and global perspective.  Her commitment to good governance as a NACD Board Governance Fellow and deep insight in the energy and oil and gas sector also provides beneficial support to the Chapter’s program committee.  Barbara was recently named to the Houston Business Journal’s Leading Woman in Energy.

General Don Cook, USAF (Ret.), is a four-star retired Air Force General and independent corporate director. He currently serves the boards of USAA Federal Savings Bank, Crane Corporation, US Security Associates, United Way, Masters Leadership Program of San Antonio and Bexar County, and Housing 1 Source. General Cook is a founding member of the Chapter’s San Antonio Advisory Board, past program chair and is the incoming chair of the Advisory Board.  He brings great knowledge and insights particularly relating to Strategy and Risk from his deep experience in the military and private sector. 

Allen Gelwick, Executive Vice President and Member, Lockton Companies LLC, and director, NanoRisk Assessment International, Ltd.(nRai), Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts, and the Houston Symphony Board of Trustees.  Mr. Gelwick has served the Chapter as an advisor and sponsor for over 10 years and provides the Chapter with expert advice in employee benefits and compliance, executive and financial risk, director liability, and cyber liability.  He member of the Chapter’s membership committee and a very active contributor in the local community.

David Preng, Chapter president, commented, “I am extremely pleased about the election of our new Directors.  Additionally, I am especially proud of the solid governance practice demonstrated by the Nominating and Governance Committee headed by Alan Crain, in identifying and recruiting new Board talent and future Chapter leaders that will help us continue delivering the quality of thought leadership our Chapter has been able to provide for nearly 15 years.”

Chapter chairman, Tom Glanville stated, "Our new directors will add additional strength and depth to the Texas TriCities Board.  Our board, like those public, private, and not for profit entities on whose boards we serve, strives to be a competitive advantage for the organization as we lead it to increasing relevance, durability, and growth in a fast changing world.  We are fortunate to have this new group of directors to help carry this charge."
